Reaction from Days Gone announcement leaves fans disgruntled
Days Gone fans desire a sequel, yet it has become abundantly clear they won’t get one.
Days Gone has experienced a huge resurgence of popularity recently, many attributing its recent revival to both PlayStation Plus support and increasing interest in post-apocalyptic narratives since HBO’s The Last of Us finished airing. Sony turned down any possibility for a Days Gone sequel back in 2019, prompting fans to campaign them into reconsidering. Days Gone’s director admitted recently that an April release would’ve been possible had Sony been given permission. Bend Studio posted something recently which caused many to think Sony had reconsidered their position – many mistakenly thought Sony had decided on change of heart!
Bend Studio recently tweeted out an image featuring singer and actress Rina Sawayama dressed up like Days Gone character Rina Sawayama riding her motorbike through an unfamiliar landscape, reading “Revved up to hit the Broken Road, Rina Sawayama boards her Drifter bike to brave Days Gone’s dangerous world in their latest PlayStation Playmakers announcement – #Bend30!”
At first, fans became extremely confused: some thought Days Gone II had finally been announced with its own protagonist; while others imagined this could be stills from an adaptation film adaptation. After all, having “announcement” and the hashtag commemorating studio 3 Anniversary written into a tweet made it appear significant – though in actuality the image is part of a wider PlayStation marketing campaign which features celebrities who love gaming as part of some their favourite titles!
Bend Studio may offer us some comfort by promising something soon; their last title, Days Gone was released back in 2019 so developers have likely been hard at work since then on another project or possibly taking charge of Uncharted franchise. Rumors indicate this possibility but we must wait and see.
