Starfield fans fear a repeat of Cyberpunk 2077’s launch debacle.
Starfield has experienced unprecedented momentum, creating excitement among fans but also raising concerns that its launch may fall short of expectations.
Unfortunately, we’ve witnessed it time after time – particularly over recent years. Just this year alone, Redfall, Forspoken and The Lord of the Rings: Gollum were met with less-than-positive reviews; indeed Daedalic Entertainment announced they will no longer utilize their internal development division and their plans for another Lord of the Rings game have now been cancelled altogether – quite unnerving news indeed!
Cyberpunk 2077 stands as perhaps the ultimate example. Although Cyberpunk has made quite the comeback since release thanks to post-launch updates, when first released it was an immense disappointment filled with bugs – further compounded by people being truly excited for CD Projekt Red’s ambitious vision; when release day arrived and its actual game fell so far short it felt catastrophic for many players.
As reported by Video Gamer, some Redditors are being wary of becoming overexcited about Starfield due to recent experiences with Cyberpunk: “After what happened with Cyberpunk I am definitely holding off preordering until I am sure its preview does justice,” commented Redditor Xenophon__ with over 18K upvotes at time of writing; clearly an opinion shared by many gamers.
As many Redditors on Reddit noted, Starfield will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one if anyone’s nervous about paying full price for something they are uncertain how much they will enjoy, there’s no reason for concern as long as your subscription service payment covers this expense – though I imagine most might worry it could turn into another disappointment from Bethesda!
