As fans of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag know, this past year has been one of the strangest. Fans have long demanded sequels or remakes for this critically acclaimed game, yet nothing concrete has come of it yet.

Recently, one such wish came true in an unconventional manner – an online WEBTOON series called Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple was released online and serves as an unofficial sequel to Black Flag by following Edward Kenway on a journey across Southeast Asian waters in search of Pieces of Eden. While an exciting concept indeed, fans probably weren’t quite expecting such an unconventional medium as its execution would hardly provide what had long been anticipated by Ubisoft fans since 2008.

Now however, reports indicate a new-gen remake of Black Flag may soon be on its way, hopefully assuaging fans’ disappointment with Forgotten Temple. Kotaku reports two anonymous sources suggesting the remake may already be underway but won’t be complete for several years due to being in its “early stages.” It is thought Ubisoft Singapore are involved – their Singapore studio also working on Skull and Bones which has also seen considerable delays.

Ubisoft has yet to officially confirm this claim, so take it with a grain of salt until Ubisoft official responds. However, we know the company is working on other Assassin’s Creed titles aside from Mirage which will release later this autumn; including titles set in ancient China and feudal Japan which fans have long demanded as possible additions.
