Starfield fans who create 60fps petition may not understand how games actually function.
Starfield may just be the most anticipated game of 2023 – although Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 may also make waves!
Starfield promises to be massive; its Star Map may well be one of the largest we’ve ever seen; no surprise given that there are over 1,000 planets (only 10% have life, though that still covers 100 planets compared to most games I’ve played), all connected by over 100,000 lines of dialogue! I can only begin to imagine how long it’ll take me to finish Starfield; for now we know its romance options, file size, file size requirements as well as whether The Adoring Fan returns (although some fans have actually started petitions demanding 60fps frame rate).
Change.org was started up for this petition which has amassed 144 signatures towards an initial goal of 200 signatures in less than 2 weeks since launch. According to its creators, Starfield is an incredible game which should offer 60 frames rather than lower quality settings if at all possible; its enormous potential may even make it to Game of the Year status and it would be sad without performance mode support; please Bethesda add this feature soon.”
Signers also shared their perspective. “Launching this game at 4k30fps may lower standards for current-gen games by not including performance mode – an integral component to Xbox series X and PlayStation 5,” according to one signatory.
Starfield is such an expansive game, that running at 30fps actually enhances rather than hinders player experience – contrary to popular opinion. Todd Howard explained this point recently when discussing it: “Our primary objective has always been delivering all features. “Ultimately,” Howard concluded: “we wanted consistency over performance modes in terms of [our game’s running great]…. [I]t all comes back down to consistency overall for us and for our players – something they all tell us!”
