Starfield boasts an open world that is “thousands of times larger” than Skyrim; what an epic undertaking!
Bethesda’s next big title, Starfield, will soon hit stores, and fans have begun discussing its exploreable planets with great enthusiasm.
Starfield has quickly generated buzz since its initial announcement and gameplay reveal last month, promising to be Bethesda’s largest world yet with over 1,000 explorable planets that make for larger open worlds than The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Although not every planet supports sentient life, planet exploration will still play a pivotal part of the game: players will use it to gather new items and crafting materials as well as sightseeing in their newly-constructed spaceship they get to build from scratch. While its main story takes around 30-40 hours to beat, most players’ time with this game will likely involve discovering what each planet offers them.
SussyHoward321 created an interesting Reddit thread about planet size recently by asking, “Can every planet in Starfield reach Skyrim size?” According to Sussy, every planet should at least be multiple times bigger than Skyrim map while remaining fully explorable; sizes will differ between planets but we should expect many in Starfield being much, much bigger – “right?”
SussyHowared321 made comparisons between Starfield and No Man’s Sky, two space exploration games which use procedural generation techniques to generate millions of planets with less detail than what Starfield will include.
Commentators added their two cents by noting all evidence points toward large open worlds for each planet that outshone Skyrim both in scale and proportions.
“Watching the trailer disproves any notion that Starfield planets won’t dwarf Skyrim; clearly they will. To use procedural generation for entire planets while keeping them so small would actually be quite weird… In Starfield there will be thousands of times larger playable area than Skyrim.”
“Firstly I think you are correct about the size of planets being larger than Skyrim’s map. Furthermore, it amazes me how often people in comments or on other internet threads compare this game with one released back in 2011!”
Technically. However, I doubt they’ll feel nearly as vast. Skyrim’s world feels enormous due to the vast content present therein – such as caves, forts, cities, towns, swamps forests plains brimming with factions and their occasional interactions.” ”
As Starfield remains at the peak of anticipation, fans have eagerly counted down to its release – some taking advantage of sick days to spend more time playing this epic videogame! For Xbox and PC users who cannot yet afford PS1, an exclusive offer makes Starfield accessible at less than half the cost with limited-time prices beginning as little as PS1!
Starfield will launch exclusively for Xbox Series X/S and PC in September 2017.
