Starfield’s stunning collector’s edition has already begun fetching high prices on auction websites, even before its official release date of April 19.
Scalpers wreak havoc upon the video game industry by buying consoles and collector editions to resell at absurdly inflated prices.
Even McDonald’s Happy Meals can’t escape from scalpers! Furthermore, we all remember how difficult it was to acquire PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles immediately following their late 2020 releases; but stock fronts on both are now readily available with scalpers cutting costs dramatically in order to shift stock quickly – what a shame.
No matter how healthy the stock may be for consoles or other items, scalpers have always managed to find ways to exploit any situation for profit; their latest scam being Starfield Constellation Edition consoles.
What does the Constellation Edition include? This special package comes equipped with an eye-catching Chronomark Watch and Case, a Credit Stick featuring Laser Etched Game Code (sadly not the actual physical game), Steelbook Case to store imaginary disc, Constellation Patch (pre order exclusive!), Shattered Space Story expansion as well as exclusive pre order-exclusive DLC like Old Mars Skin Pack! And of course early access for up to five days early access!
Starfield fans are taking to Reddit in order to voice their displeasure with scalpers: “Can I post about how annoyed I am that scalpers bought out all Constellation Editions across all stores and are selling them for $400-$700?” asked Redditor eeedg3ydaddies.
“Sadly scalpers use multiple email accounts and credit cards to get around this limit” wrote Xpalidocious, while switch8000 noted “GameStop didn’t limit orders as long as you had a pro account – you could order as many tickets as needed!”
“Report all sellers for violating eBay’s Terms of Service – preselling items more than thirty days ahead of when they ship is prohibited; since games won’t ship for over twice this long these sellers are inherently violating TOS,” advised seakingsoyuz. Google search shows that GameStop in the US as well as Bethesda Store have both sold out of Starfield Constellation Edition; however, in the UK there may still be stock available at GAME.
Sometimes it may be tempting to succumb to scalpers’ temptation and buy from scalers; but by feeding this monster it won’t go away. By resisting all temptation from scalers we may help some sellers lose incentive and thus decrease potential buyers for scalped goods.
Starfield will be released for PC and Xbox Series X|S on 6 September 2023 unless you preorder either Constellation or Premium Edition and your release date changes to 1 September.
