Some might argue that Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series has lost some steam over time despite remaining high quality games.

However, even with its less-than-ideal gameplay and stealth mechanics that lagged far behind those found in Metal Gear Solid or Splinter Cell games, Assassin’s Creed first saw release in 2007 with great potential.

By the second game’s arrival starring Ezio Auditore, things had improved substantially and over the years that followed, Ubisoft recognized which fans enjoyed living the fantasy assassin lifestyle.

However, with the arrival of Assassin’s Creed Origins in 2017 as its flagship title – though ultimately being a stealth game -it heavily relied on RPG-inspired systems like open world missions, experience points (XP), skill trees (STs) etc. Don’t get me wrong: I still adored Origins but its successor games do not compare.

So when Assassin’s Creed Mirage was announced in September 2022 and promised to bring back to its roots, veteran fans were eagerly awaiting its launch. Yet that does not necessarily signal an end of RPGs anytime soon according to an industry insider.

BrunoHM, an insider and ResetEra forum member known for revealing information early, claims in an anonymous post shared on Reddit that John Harker believes the forthcoming Assassin’s Creed Red, set in Feudal Japan, will mark the final RPG-inspired game from Ubisoft.

Harker recently responded to an anonymous thread regarding Assassin’s Creed Red rumor speculation by simply replying that it “RED will be the final iteration of Origins formula”. Unfortunately there was no additional detail provided as to where Harker obtained their information; nonetheless it shouldn’t be disregarded outright either as it doesn’t seem farfetched at all; moreover Redditor sharing post also mentioned how Harker knew of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey prior to launch 2018. This provides further credence for Harker; further adding credibility is that Redditor sharing post mentioned Harker knew about Odyssey prior its launch earlier than expected!

Rumor has it that Assassin’s Creed Red may be closer than previously believed, with fans calling for its release during Cold War-inspired spy games.

At this point, there is no set release date for Assassin’s Creed Red; however, its anticipated arrival should occur around 2024. Meanwhile, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox versions of Assassin’s Creed Mirage will all launch simultaneously on 12 October 2023.
