Rockstar Legal took action and ordered that Rockstar Cluckin’ Bell restaurant close down, even though this action has nothing to do with Rockstar Gaming itself.
Well, no one was too shocked when Take-Two Interactive lawyers issued a cease and desist letter and shut down fan-made creation Cluckin’ Bell restaurant – but nobody should be taken by surprise about its demise either.
Cluckin’ Bell made its first real life appearance last year at San Diego Comic Con (SDCC), drawing inspiration from an in-game fast food chain seen in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that serves a parody version of restaurants such as Chick-fil-A or KFC. Smokin J and content creator BoyWorldWide organized it for four days as part of an “art performance and immersive experience”, complete with employees dressed up like they do in game while employees wore yellow uniforms emblazoned with logos depicted from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to match Cluckin’ Bell branding exactly. Unfortunately this experience won’t return at SDCC this year due to unforeseen reasons: this time.
As reported by GGRecon, Cluckin’ Bell planned on returning to Comic Con this year with an expanded experience – they even teased about adding Burger Shot Stallion toys and uniforms! Unfortunately however, Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company issued Cluckin’ Bell a cease and desist letter due to their remarkable social media success.
Smokin J, who runs Cluckin’ Bell, reported in their letter to RockstarINTEL that after receiving a cease and desist letter from Take-Two Interactive’s law firm last night, they have had to cancel this weekend’s Burger Shot event as planned, however Don’t Cluckin Tell will still feature at Comic Con as planned despite this development.
Josh George of Don’t Cluckin’ Tell was enthusiastic to welcome fans of GTA V, Comic-Con visitors, and local San Diegans alike at these events to enjoy delicious food, beverages and an immersive video game-inspired experience reminiscent of Don’t Cluckin’ Tell. “We can’t wait for everyone to join us!” he commented.
