As soon as PlayStation’s latest console sold out immediately, scalpers took immediate advantage and began bidding up the price immediately.
For those not fortunate to obtain one at launch, Sony’s PS5’s first two years were excruciatingly difficult for anyone who wasn’t lucky. These consoles became like rare metal; scalpers made sure we all understood this fact.
Not only did a worldwide semiconductor shortage contribute to PS5 console scarcity, but scalpers were an even larger factor. Even when setting stock alerts at major retailers and joining online queues immediately afterwards, no guarantee could be given that someone hadn’t come before them and bought up all available stock immediately – leaving many gamers no other option but to either wait months without getting one at all, or pay exorbitant scalper prices that far outshone what the value should have been. Not fun.
At the start of 2017, Jim Ryan, president and CEO of PlayStation, stated that gamers would find the console easier to locate at retailers globally starting now – an assertion which has proven true, leading to some amazing deals that would have seemed outlandish even 12 months ago. Unfortunately though, limited-edition Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 console bundle quickly sold out upon becoming available for order earlier this month; similarly the limited-edition cover which featured this slick design quickly sold out across retailers as soon as orders went live – Game Rant reported this week as reports indicated by multiple retailers selling out quickly as soon as orders started coming in early this month as quickly sold-out console cover which allowed users to experience that same cool design without buying an entire new system.
At this writing, it appears that multiple outlets online now carry console bundles; however, console covers remain highly sought after; although their official price was set to PS55 each on eBay, many sellers are selling them for well over PS100 instead. Ouch!
