Red Dead Redemption’s modern console release should be cause for celebration; unfortunately, however, not everyone seems delighted by Rockstar Games re-releasing Red Dead Redemption.

Rumors surrounding a remake or remaster of Red Dead Redemption’s critically acclaimed 2010 game had circulated for nearly an entire year prior to its official announcement; as its official date neared, however, these speculations started pointing more toward full remake than just remaster.

Rockstar Games announced their plans to rerelease Red Dead Redemption to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch but was disappointed to learn it would neither be remastered nor made over from 2010. Instead it will simply serve as an upgrade of 2010 original game!

No doubt this enraged many who had high hopes. I believe this serves as a lesson not to put too much stock in rumors unless proven otherwise.

However, some were left underwhelmed with the PS39.99/$49.99 RRP of an old game port; even though 4K gameplay will make for some improved visuals on PS5. Furthermore, this edition comes bundled with Undead Nightmare expansion but without multiplayer functionality.

Red Dead Redemption remains an exciting prospect to play on the go with Nintendo Switch, yet whether its price point warrants consideration remains subjective to each person’s individual perspective.

Fans have gone further than simply communicating their displeasure at Rockstar Games’ port of Red Dead Redemption by planning to review-bomb the game even though its release has yet to occur.

Reddit users have taken to urging fans not to purchase this port if you do not agree with its announcement, in an attempt to send a strong message that hits where it hurts most: the wallet.

Redditor dtv20 made this point clear on Reddit when discussing this port, noting “it is only available as an Xbox 360 version with no enhancements whatsoever or multiplayer support, making porting much simpler compared to MGS4 due to PS3 architecture issues – so do not buy this cash grab.”

Fans have made their opinions known through attacks against the announcement trailer posted by Rockstar Games to its official YouTube channel for this re-release, garnering over 35,000 dislikes to 110,00 likes (at the time of writing) — Ouch!

Next week’s Red Dead Redemption release should prove interesting both with regard to user reviews and sales figures. You may have also noted the absence of Xbox support; this is likely due to RDR being available already through backwards compatibility on Xbox. In my personal experience it runs fantastic on Series X|S at an excellent value price point!

Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare bundle will arrive digitally for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch on 17 August 2023; then its physical release will occur ten weeks later on 13 October.
