Imagine yourself transported back in time (December 2020): nothing of significance was happening worldwide and CD Projekt had finally released Cyberpunk 2077 after months of anticipation.

As many of you recall, Cyberpunk 2077’s launch was far from successful; many players found its gameplay unplayable on consoles and less powerful PCs; refunds were issued; an apology made; CD Projekt had to completely alter their post-launch plans in response.

Cyberpunk 2077’s postlaunch plans saw numerous adjustments, and one such alteration involved postponing major expansions for an indefinite amount of time. Story content will arrive as promised as part of Phantom Liberty; yet what will this mean for multiplayer game play in Cyberpunk 2077?

CD Projekt’s initial launch issues of Cyberpunk 2077 made their plans to introduce a multiplayer mode difficult; their studio had to spend all its energy fixing what had already been released before they could consider adding any fresh content, like Phantom Liberty or any future DLC expansion packs. But as time has gone on and we see progress made within the game – that tells you something! – there has been significant development over time!

Unfortunately, Phantom Liberty may never see official release from CD Projekt; however, modding teams could potentially fill this void left by CD Projekt’s abandonment of an official multiplayer mode for its RPG. However, some optimism can be taken in knowing that fans may already be working towards creating it!

There are multiplayer mods for many single-player games, such as Hogwarts Legacy, Skyrim and Fallout 3, that require considerable work before completion. Unfortunately, they cannot be completed quickly as each mod takes time and dedication before becoming complete.

CyberScript have been working diligently over the last year or so on creating a multiplayer mode for Cyberpunk 2077, briefly making their mod available via NexusMods last year (gameplay here), before quickly being pulled.

However, there’s hope on the horizon: A post on CyberScript website confirms their intentions of recreating multiplayer for the game. When or if this will become available is anyone’s guess but as modders typically work tirelessly in their free time to pull miracles together it might take longer than expected; nevertheless it’s exciting knowing someone out there could soon create what could become an amazing multiplayer experience!
