Baldur’s Gate 3 completionists typically spend between 200 to 250 hours playing through, yet one player completed it in just 10 minutes!

Speedrunners continue to amaze gamers worldwide as Canada-based Mae set an incredible 10-minute and three second PC time trial time record at Larian Studios’ PC game! Sonic wishes he could run as fast!

At this point, any news from Larian, including their highly sought after feature for their upcoming update, pales in comparison. We may want more customisation options but the thrill of powering through is so much cooler!

Mae now holds the world speedrun record, yet we know many will attempt to surpass them and take its crown for themselves. Which begs the question – can Mae beat their record time?

That 10 minute period included both loading times and character selection strategies, to give an indication of just how meticulous Mae was in her approach. Here’s an outline of their methods to give an impression.

Be warned – I am about to reveal some serious Baldur’s Gate 3 spoilers – if this information concerns you then run, don’t look back, leave now if need be and never look back if possible! Now that warnings have been addressed let’s move onward.

Gale was chosen for their ability to escape Act 2 at its conclusion by setting off their Netherese Destruction Orb on their chest; doing this allows players to skip an intense boss battle as well as Act 3. This decision also allowed us to use Gale as our origin character!

With such an ambitious strategy in mind, planning is required for success. Below we outline some basic details but be warned – spoilers ahead.

Mae needed to use Enhance Leap so Gale could significantly extend their jumping distance before recruiting Shadowheart before transitioning smoothly into Act 2. Once in Act 2, she needed to cast Sanctuary to prevent single-target attacks from injuring Gale while levelling up enough and learning Conjuration so Mae could teleport past two major bosses and bring off Gale’s final stand.

Mae’s efforts can serve as an excellent lesson to us all; according to How Long To Beat, her game can typically be completed within 31 hours of starting it up.

Because Mae is so capable, we don’t expect anyone will surpass her and break the 10 minute milestone; but, that doesn’t mean we won’t wait with anticipation to see who dares attempt it; best wishes to those brave enough!

Baldur’s Gate 3 has officially launched on PC and will become available to PlayStation players starting September 6th.
