Dying Light has received critical acclaim as one of the finest zombie games ever produced.
With so many zombie video games on the market, it can be difficult for even the best games in their category to differentiate themselves and rise above the noise of competition.
From Resident Evil and Dead Rising, to Telltales The Walking Dead, Left 4 Dead, Days Gone and Yakuza: Dead Souls; there are truly some incredible zombie-inspired games out there for gamers who appreciate both horror and action! It would be hard to go wrong when selecting any one of the previously listed titles!
However, we’ve had our fair share of duds. Some examples include The Walking Dead: Survival Instincts, Umbrella Corps and Metal Gear Survive – yes there really is such thing!
Techland’s 2015 entry Dying Light deserves your consideration as well, with fans discussing this open world zombie slaying parkour game on Reddit. Dying Light follows an undercover agent named Kyle Crane portrayed by Roger Craig Smith – one of whom voices both Chris Redfield from Resident Evil as well as Ezio Auditore from Assassin’s Creed and Sonic the Hedgehog!
Harran, situated somewhere in the Middle East, had become quarantined due to a deadly virus outbreak which transformed its residents into feral zombies. Players could engage with this zombie threat through free-flowing parkour or try and flee via engaging combat with zombies as Harran sprawls massively across a vast landscape.
Dying Light features an outstanding day and night cycle; when nightfall arrives, zombies become even deadlier! Dying Light highlights risk-vs-reward tradeoffs while its soundtrack remains amazing.
Dying Light was far from being an ideal game, yet still proved enjoyable to players across multiple generations. According to Reddit user rodejo_9 who opened up discussion in the thread thread.
“This zombie game stands out as being exceptionally well-rounded”, they noted, boasting “great gameplay, engaging story, single player mode, multiplayer modes and replayability as well as an intricacy crafting system with numerous weapons to select from, great DLC offerings, as well as parkour elements which should not be neglected!”
“Dying Light was such an enjoyable game; I’m still disappointed at my disappointment in Dying Light 2. Everything about its feel of movement, smooth controls and straightforward plot is superior,” stated PacienceW. While PhoenixKA stated “Playing Dying Light 2 made him want to play Dying Light again”.
“Dying Light was such an enjoyable game to play together with a friend; drop-kicking zombies was my favourite part; seeing my first Volatile made my hair stand on end!” was what Kostoi remembered fondly of Dying Light. SlyyKozlov also raved, “Highly recommended; best zombie game I have ever experienced bar none!.”
Dying Light is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
