When it comes to speculating about who is going to play Batman next, the rumours are as persistent and relentless as Satan himself.
There’s no way to avoid the fact that, when ‘news about superheroes’ spreads, everyone hears it. According to the newest rumour, American actor John Krasinski is set to play Batman in the upcoming reboot of The Dark Knight.
On 20 August, a tweet was sent out that read: “John Krasinski rumoured as Batman for Andy Muschetti’s The Brave And The Bold.” This post, at the time this article was written, had received 17.6K and counting likes. However, it is not based on solid evidence.
James Gunn was quick to respond to a tweeter who asked “Do you assume that rumours regarding DCU Batman’s casting are false?” Gunn’s response clarified any DC fan’s doubts as to what is true or not. Then they said, “I have no idea what you are talking about.” “We do not even have a screenplay, and there is a strike going on, so no, casting.”
It would be an enormous faux pas for anyone to breach the solidarity of this strike. Gunn may not be forthcoming about rumours, but the strike would certainly slow down any new. Director’s like to hide their secrets to delight and surprise fans. If they agreed to every rumour, excitement would soon wane.
Krasinski as the next Batman is not something that really excites anyone. Many fans don’t think it will ever happen. Redditor stated: “I do not think Andy will direct Batman”. Another post said, “I am just not interested at this time.” You can cast whoever you want. It’s great if it works. “If it doesn’t work, try again” This last line really struck a chord with me because so many people are tired of the hype around superheroes. It was fun once, but it is now stale.
The Flashhas become the biggest flop of superhero film history. This tells us everything we need to know. While I love a good story about superheroes, I agree that people are looking for more than comic books. Barbieshowed viewers that they want to see something new when going to the cinema. Hollywood must lead by example and be original. Well, the track record of Hollywood says that they won’t.
