Skyrim fans generally recognize that Stormcloaks represent the wrong side in battle.
Reddit’s forums often spark heated discussions regarding the inherent good or evil qualities of RPG factions; one such faction in Skyrim that has recently drawn fire is its Stormcloaks who oppose Imperials directly.
Opting for one faction over the other in The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim can be an important decision, whether you play casually or take your lore seriously. Joining the Stormcloaks has its advantages; as noted by one Redditor: their armour looks awesome (for instance). Wouldn’t it be lovely if that were sole factor to consider when making such decisions?
One participant mentions how these rebels refer to themselves as rebels, something many associate with being heroic as in Star Wars. Unfortunately for them though, as children playing Star Wars often chose rebel factions because it seemed more exciting and appealing – who doesn’t want to join an uprising against authority?! Unfortunately though, here the history goes much deeper.
Redditors generally believe they’re on the wrong side of history and its future; some give reasons such as: “Roleplaying as an Ulfric-born Nord is only logical;” or Ulfric feels arrogant to them personally.
One individual noted how Skyrim politics seem tainted with real world issues: “I find it interesting how many folks in this thread seem to view Skyrim politics through the prism of their personal political ideologies – taking Skyrim politics very seriously indeed!” To some degree this statement holds truth; further down in the thread one comment read: “I heard Ulfric speak before; seems he at least has his head and heart where they need to be,” which countered an earlier comment by another individual above them.
Stormcloaks do carry many negatives, yet some argue it doesn’t matter which choice one makes. I guess, in this dispute between Stormcloaks themselves, each side may be asking themselves “Are we the baddies??”
