Fallout 4’s free new-gen update has left fans frustrated and angry.
Fallout fans are becoming impatient as the years tick by without an update for Fallout 4.
Recent gaming industry trends demonstrate this reality; two notable examples being CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 which received major updates that take advantage of modern hardware.
Bethesda announced in 2022 that an upgrade for Fallout 4 similar to Skyrim: Anniversary Editon would be released, boasting upgraded graphics, framerates and bonus features.
Upgrade was supposed to launch sometime during 2023; however, we’re nearing the end of 2019 without any signs or mention of such an update coming.
Bethesda seems determined not to deliver on its promised update for Starfield, perhaps hoping that its arrival may make people forget all about it altogether.
Reddit user The_Only_Jason_2020 was quick to recall as they asked the Fallout community “Whatever has become of the next-gen console update for Fallout 4, as was discussed? No one seems to talk about this since June.”
Fans weighed in with various theories as to where Bethesda may have hidden this update; some believing they’re saving it until an ideal moment or relevant time arrives to launch.
“Wagering money on Fallout TV show could create something similar to Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk’s feedback loop, according to sources familiar with its development.”
“They released Starfield last weekend, so my guess is they resumed development after that point.
“It seems likely that they will wait until Fallout TV show debuts to ride its wave of excitement and capitalize on it with new product releases that compete directly against Starfield immediately, rather than release something so soon after its debut that would threaten its appeal and sales figures.”
“Yes, this situation is frustrating for us – but you need to consider which strategies will bring in the highest profit, as that may often be our solution.”
With Fallout fans increasingly impatient for its delayed upgrade to Fallout 4, let us hope the wait was worth the effort and not just another superficial face-lift.
