Remaking and remastering popular videogames of yesteryear are nothing new; fans cannot get enough nostalgia from classic titles.

Dante’s Inferno was released for PSP, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. Set within hell’s fiery depths and inspired by Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy which explores nine Circles of Hell, this action-adventure game transports players back through time into this violent universe.

Visceral Games was responsible for Dante’s Inferno development; an amazing studio best known as creators of Dead Space series games. For anyone wanting a violent and dark gaming experience, none could match Visceral’s talented studio.

Dante’s Inferno did not receive stellar reviews; nevertheless it still earned a respectable score of 73% among reviewers and 7.7 among users on Metacritic. Yet its unique qualities garnered many loyal supporters over time.

Following Dante’s Inferno’s untimely 13 year release date in 2006, there had been whispers of its sequel but these never materialized into something tangible. Since then fans have been calling for such an announcement; even if this may never come about they remain hopeful for at least seeing some form of remake or remaster release in modern form.

“Remake of Dante’s Inferno?” Redditor GrosDOUDOU37000 started off the conversation by opening up this Reddit thread with this question: Since Motive Studios [which later released Dead Space 2 as planned in January 2023] and Electronic Arts are working on creating the remake of Dead Space following Visceral Games closure in October 2017 then whether these teams should create one of Dante’s Inferno as well?

As is evident now, Dead Space remake was an enormously successful launch this year and remakes for its sequels are already under development. If Electronic Arts were to announce they are commissioning one for Dante’s Inferno it would certainly come as welcome news to fans of both Dead Space and its sequels.

“EA may be planning a remake of Dante’s Inferno since they stated there would be one unannounced remake… so given how popular Dead Space remake is now, my guess would be Dante’s Inferno could well become another potential remake,” speculated MarounAka-Kratos. Furthermore, given how money-hungry EA is when it comes to sales numbers of their games it might result in even further sequels for Dante’s Inferno!

“What I want instead is a remaster that includes all DLC, both single player and multiplayer modes, as well as any potential updates,” according to Cobraregala2013. I like his idea; though should a remake ever become reality like in The Last of Us Part I and Red Dead Redemption port versions; multiplayer would likely be removed entirely from it.

Electronic Arts announced in August this year that they would shut down the online servers for Dante’s Inferno and Dead Space 2 this December as a cost-cutting strategy; but I prefer to think they shut them down to push fans towards unannounced remakes instead.

Dante’s Inferno may or may not receive a remake or remaster in the near future; we recommend not holding your breath. At present though, Dante’s Inferno remains backwards compatible with Xbox Series X/S and One platforms and still available through Xbox Marketplace at discounted rates – though we would suggest waiting before expecting one to happen!
