According to fans, Assassin’s Creed II has aged quite gracefully over time; many remain convinced it still delivers in most areas.

With its return to stealth gameplay and assassinations as its primary objectives in its latest title Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Assassin’s Creed seems on an upswing once again. RPG games may have failed to excite most fans so now the series refocuses its games around this more traditional form of assassination gameplay.

Fans, however, still consider Assassin’s Creed II the pinnacle of this series due to its beautiful open world environment, breathtaking story, and beloved protagonist Ezio.

One fan on Reddit named RavenPhoenix__ extolled its virtues – much to the delight of other fans who still hold it dear nearly 15 years since its initial release.

They stated: “Assassin’s Creed II has aged beautifully… The cities are atmospheric, highly detailed for its period and Florence surprised me in terms of population density. Combat has aged most noticeably but remains enjoyable with multiple combos being pulled off easily while its music remains amazing – definitely earning 10/10 on my scale – which only serves to remind us how far Ubisoft has fallen since this game released.”

Fans echoed his sentiment, noting that while some parts of the original game have aged considerably over time, it remains much more entertaining and immersive than many sequels and spin-offs that came afterward.

“After playing Mirage, ACII left me surprised with its combat system compared to that of Mirage; personally speaking, it seemed superior in ACII!

“What an interesting thread. Just recently completed AC2 Platinum trophy and found it absolutely exceptional. Thanks!”

“Re-played it again for the first time since launch and was surprised at its longevity. Played PS4 Remaster version and didn’t feel nearly as old.”

As much as future Assassin’s Creed games may strive to uphold the legacy of Ubisoft’s masterpiece, I doubt any can match its magnitude and excellence.
