GTA 6 fans were shocked and dismayed to learn of Rockstar Games’ unexpected announcement regarding GTA 6.
Grand Theft Auto fans eagerly anticipate any news on GTA VI from Rockstar Games; all they want is to see its trailer and release date revealed. But when Rockstar released an announcement-less tweet that focused only on mobile releases for Liberty City Stories and Chinatown Wars instead of providing anything new about Grand Theft Auto VI – fans were left bemused.
Rockstar Games is well known for withholding information. Their strategy for gathering this material takes into account their extensive impactful games like GTA VI. While any other announcement would likely have been cheered with excitement by fans, this announcement wasn’t going to satisfy everyone due to not containing GTA VI-related news.
Both games announced are coming to mobile platforms – Android and iOS, available to GTA+ members – for Android and iOS, respectively. Fans took to social media (Twitter at first, now X) in droves to express their displeasure with this decision by Rockstar Games.
GTA VI fans were eagerly waiting for any hint at an announcement or teaser of GTA VI; some replied wistfully by writing, “THE GTA ANNOUNCEMENT I HAVE BEEN WAITING YEARS FOR!!!!” or commented sarcastically with statements like, “Looks like Rockstar decided not to release GTA VI today.”
Rockstar will never win this battle: GTA VI has been simmering in development for years now, and leaks that surfaced in September 2022 only amplified player anticipation further. All that remains for players now are details, and as many have noted, they “won’t be getting GTA+ still”. Fans meme and praise two spin-off games announced as well, but this still “isn’t enough.”
I will be delighted when the trailer finally releases,. Still, we all deserve an official sequel or remake to what many consider to be Rockstar Games’ ultimate Table Tennis title.
