Red Dead Redemption player gives the game to an elderly father with positive results.
At times, our world can seem dark and cruel, with only the worst details making the news. While staying informed is essential to human survival, I hope to bring you something light-hearted to warm your hearts this Valentine’s Day – with stories for children of all ages in mind!
Video games provide pockets of joy. I don’t need to tell you this; chances are, if you’re reading this, chances are high that you already understand and agree with that sentiment. Unfortunately, not everyone shares that sentiment; some require additional encouragement – like one Red Dead Redemption player who gave his game as a Christmas present to his dad!
At Scott Innes’ dad’s 70th birthday celebrations, Innes wanted something “different.” Red Dead Redemption II has long been considered “one of the finest open-world games ever created,” making it an appropriate present.
John Marston provided Innes’ dad with excellent instruction early on as she learned RDR under John’s tutelage – what could be better? One of Innes’ texts to his son about RDR read, “I tried out RDR yesterday and thought it was fantastic; once I understood what each button does, it became even better!” We can all identify with that feeling!
Two months later, my dad again spoke of his stories while offering an apology for not replying earlier due to him “riding around Gaptooth Ridge and sorting some baddies out in Armadillo.” As someone who tends to miss texts from both of their parents due to being busy exploring (usually farming or crafting!), receiving this text message felt as if it came directly out of my phone screen!
Given how well RDR II has been receiving, I hope Innes’ father will progress to its sequel, which, to be fair, may contain even more mysteries and surprises than its predecessor – in some instances, even five years after its initial launch! Some players are only discovering secret encounters hundreds of hours into playing it!
Though the debate about RDR III’s necessity is ongoing – many fans maintain it isn’t needed – we can be comforted in knowing there’s plenty to enjoy from both previous games. Hearing tales like one where two men share an affinity for video gaming will surely warm our hearts!
