No doubt about it – only three years ago many were searching online in hopes of finding their PlayStation 5. Now talk has already turned towards when we will see this next Sony console come into stock.

Released towards the end of 2020, Sony’s PlayStation 5 became almost impossible to acquire for much of its lifespan due to stocks running low and scalpers hoarding consoles like they were gold dust – something which doesn’t bode well for its successor PlayStation 6.

However, no release date for PlayStation 6 has been officially set or even hinted at; yet fans are already discontent that it might come sooner than expected. One contributor posted to r/GamingLeaksandRumours noted that PlayStation LifeStyle speculates the PS6 may launch by 2028 or later (this rumor comes courtesy of Tom Henderson of Insider-Gaming who understands “that its successor, PS6, may not appear before at least 2028”) according to an article written by Insider-Gaming who “understands that its next-gen predecessor may take another decade before unveiling.”

Furthermore, this rumor corresponds with an official Sony document which stated the PlayStation 6 would launch sometime after 2027. If all this holds true then we should see PS5 Pro launch in 2024 with PS6 to follow shortly afterwards sometime around 2028 – although that seems a long ways off considering PlayStation 5 is only three years old!

One Reddit user suggests spending more time on PlayStation 5. “Can people really be that enthusiastic to quickly transition from PS5 to the next gen console in just a few years when its releases already struggle to keep pace, with games taking longer and longer to come out, quality dropping overall and prices getting smaller?” they asked. They added: “While PS5 may get some actual games by 2026-2027 rolls around, are we really going to repeat this cycle with PS6 only starting receiving content nearing its last two years?”

As previously noted, Sony is yet to announce an exact release date for PlayStation 6; let us hope that when it does make its appearance it will experience a much smoother launch than previous generations of console.
