Baldur’s Gate 3 speedrunners recently suffered an enormous setback when an update altered the parameters for sleeping with one of Baldur’s Gate’s NPC characters.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is unquestionably an oddball title. At first glance, its core gameplay resembles that of standard RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons; yet once you dig deeper you find its mechanics allow for unexpected playthroughs.

Others players take an entirely different approach; spending hours of their day trying to banish any or all NPCs as quickly as possible.

Baldur’s Gate 3 can hardly come as a shock: after all, its sexual content makes for one of the most contentious games ever released and celebrates sexuality on nearly every front.

Unfortunately, members of the sex speedrun community received disappointing news: their strategies to quickly connect with certain NPCs as quickly as possible have become outdated due to new ways for players to unlock in-game lovemaking.

According to Push Square, one of the changes included in the game’s recent patch states: “For Lae’zel to romance you, no longer simply gain enough approval; in order for her to decide you are worthy enough, your actions must also speak volumes about who you are.”

Speedrunners were devastated, as Lae’zel is a favorite character to partner up with in-game; one reason being her easy way of developing physical rapport.

Prior to this update, all you had to do for an enjoyable encounter with Lae’zel was earn her approval – something which can often come easily. Now players will need to put forth additional effort which may add additional minutes onto a speedrun clock.

As it remains uncertain exactly which actions will demonstrate your worthiness to her, there remains some chance for breaking some world records provided that most can be accomplished easily and with minimal effort required from you.

Baldur’s Gate 3 can currently be played on PC and PlayStation 5, but will soon arrive for Xbox later this year.
