Virtua Fighter Teases New Direction with Wolf Hawkfield Redesign

SEGA has revealed new details about its upcoming *Virtua Fighter* project, including the return of long-time character Wolf Hawkfield with a dramatic new look.

Shown during the recent VF Direct, the redesigned Wolf now sports a beard and has dropped his iconic ponytail, embracing a more intense professional wrestling vibe with “heel” character elements. Developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, known for the *Yakuza* series, is aiming to bring deeper storytelling to the franchise, focusing more on character motivations and narrative development.

Producer Riichiro Yamada confirmed that classic fighters are being “refined for the modern age,” suggesting more redesigns are coming. The untitled project marks the first major step forward for the series since *Virtua Fighter 5*, and follows SEGA’s recent push to revive interest through remasters like *Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.*

With a stronger narrative focus and updated visuals, the next *Virtua Fighter* entry looks set to modernize the legendary fighting game for a new generation.
