Fire Emblem’s Lucina Trending After Heroes Announcement
Intelligent System’s portable each match Fire Emblem Heroes is known for collecting characters around every title in the JRPG series, sometimes with restricted alternate costumes. For example, Fire Emblem Heroes recently put out ninja-themed characters, such as Lyn from The Blazing Blade. However, a more permanent improvement has caused a stir on social networking.
Early this season, Fire Emblem Heroes launched a monthly pass, with one reward for readers being Resplendent Heroes: An interchangeable form for previously-released characters that come with stat buffs, new artwork, and voice lines. Numerous Resplendent Heroes have been published, such as Marth, Ike, and Alm, and last night it was declared Resplendent Lucina from Fire Emblem: Awakening would release on November 24.

The concern for many online is that Lucina’s artwork, drawn by Etrian Odyssey artist Yuji Himukai, portrays the personality as much younger than her age. The altar’s theme coincides with the present Fire Emblem Heroes narrative in Ljosalfheimr, based on the mythical Arabian world of Ljosalfheim, where new Fire Emblem characters such as Peony and Mirabilis were children turned to spritely beings who watch over mortal fantasies. Eirika, out of Sacred Stones, has obtained a similar Resplendent costume.
Fire Emblem Heroes has employed Norse theming during its storylines with players seeing locales like Hel, land of the deceased. However, while others seem to like Himukai’s take on Lucina, others have critiqued it for infantilizing the character. Some claim potential sexual intent awarded the artist’s work on mature visual novels like Ishika to Honor.
No matter how one feels about Resplendent Lucina, it’s unlikely Intelligent Systems will stop its addition based on the backlash against the artist, even believing they’ve contributed art for Heroes characters such as Fae and Lugh. There are still major Fire Emblem characters not in Heroes, and it needs to be interesting to see how they are managed going forward.
