Steam Explodes Into 2022 with a New 28 Million Concurrent Users Record

What’s your New Years resolution? You might be able to play more videogames if you choose this resolution. Steam set a new record for concurrent users with just under 28 million.

According to SteamDB, the exact number was 2742,036, which was established on January 2, 2013. 8.2 million people were playing actively at the time. This was presumably because they wanted to get it done before returning to work. This is a month since the previous record of 27 million users was broken in November. You can guess how many people wanted to make the most out of their Christmas break.

As you would expect, Steam’s numbers are on the rise since forever. I saw a massive spike in March 2020, for reasons that I’m certain I don’t have to explain. It’s great to have indoor hobbies when it isn’t possible to go outside. It does show, however, that while its competitors are growing in size (look at you Epic Games Shop), none of them are even close to Steam in terms of numbers.

This new surge in users is not due to any new releases, which is funny. Two Football Manager2022 releases were the top ten most played games at the time the record was established. Other notable games included GTA V, which was also the most viewed Twitch game last year, CS:GO and TF2, as well as Apex Legends. None of these should be surprising.

The Steamdeck will be released into the world in February of this year. (I just realized that it was next month, help), There is no doubt that the record will be broken again.
