Epic Games has done the unthinkable: Epic Games has taken down building in Fortnite. At least, it’s Chapter 3 – Season 2.

This change, previously disclosed in leaked audio files before players could log into to Season 2, will impact all core modes for the first nine days of Fortnite. It will mean that building won’t be available until March 29, 2022 at the earliest.

This is illustrated narratively by Slone appearing with the rest of IO in the trailer and activating a device that wipes out all builds from the island.

Presumably, building will be reintroduced to the core modes with v20.10’s release on the 29th. This will be the first major update for the season.

Even the week of no building will have its challenges.

– Retrieve IO envelopes containing top-secret plans
– Recover data chips from electronics belonging to the Seven
– Destroy Build Jammers
– Set up a device uplink near Camp Cuddle or Chonker’s Speedway or The Daily Bugle

Fortnite is going through a major change. Building is a core part of Fortnite’s identity, and is what sets it apart from its battle royale counterparts. It is risky to take that away, but it may be what the game needs to attract those who don’t have time to build, at least temporarily. While building won’t disappear for too long, it will be interesting to see how the game evolves.

You don’t have to stop building. Building can still be done in Arena, Creative maps, and LTMS.

When building is not possible, make sure you take advantage of the new movement options such as mantling or tactical sprinting.
