Ex-Rockstar Dev Says Mario Kart World Can’t Match GTA 6’s Ambition
Former Rockstar developer Mike York has criticized *Mario Kart World*, claiming it can’t compete with the scale and detail of *Grand Theft Auto 6*. York, who worked on *GTA 5* and *Red Dead Redemption 2*, shared his thoughts in a recent YouTube video analyzing the second *GTA 6* trailer.
While praising the game’s visuals and realism, York said, “You’ve got Mario Kart for \$90 — you think Mario Kart competes with a game like this?” He pointed to the level of effort and technology going into *GTA 6* as justification for its potential high price. For context, *Mario Kart World* is officially priced at \$80.
Though *GTA 6* has been delayed to May 2026, it continues to dominate headlines. Rumors suggest it may cost up to \$100, but no official pricing has been confirmed.
Meanwhile, *Mario Kart World* is set to launch on June 5 alongside the Nintendo Switch 2. Despite its high price, Nintendo promises a content-rich experience with Free Roam mode and a large character roster—including quirky picks like the Moo Moo Meadows cow.
Both games are expected to sell well, but their contrasting styles, features, and prices are fueling plenty of discussion in the gaming community.
