Many of us grew up with Pokémon as an integral part of our lives. It was a right of passage for children to choose between Bulbasaur Charmander or Squirtle. Since then, much has changed. This year’s Pokemon scarlet and violet will see us choose between Sprigatito (Fuecoco), Quality and Sprigatito. But it’s not just the Pokemon who have changed since 1996.

Pokemon’s trainers have evolved with us. One artist captured the look of some of our favorite trainers. It brought back the same emotions that I experienced when I first watched Toy Story 3.

This project was created by Brahim Bensehoul, an illustrator, character artist, and creature designer. He has worked on both League of Legends as well as Call of Duty. Bensehoul also imagined classic Pokemon trainers, such as Misty or Brock.

Misty’s sketch depicts her grasping onto an adorable Togepi and a shiny Masquerain in the background. But, Misty is with her son. Our little girl is now all grown up. On the other side, Brock is still his burly self and stands side-by-side an Onix.

We can’t forget about Lt. Surge, Raichu, and Bensehoul, who received the age-up treatment. This is precisely how I would like Lt. Surge to look. Below is some of Bensehoul’s helpful work.

This makes me nostalgic. Kanto is a Pokemon icon ( despite some people thinking it’s a bit overrated). This Gen 1-inspired remake will further enhance your nostalgia. Ah, simpler times.
