Final Fantasy 16: How To Navigate Fast
Though not completely open world like its predecessor, Final Fantasy 16 still boasts numerous zones you will encounter while running around aimlessly. Sometimes side quests require revisiting previous areas or you just want to open chests you passed earlier; fast travel is your fastest method of moving quickly around quickly if this occurs; for this purpose it may even be activated automatically in the prologue; once completed and story progression progress has advanced to certain point this mechanic becomes completely accessible to you for free use.
Final Fantasy 16 makes fast travel possible when you complete Clive’s childhood tutorial area and then play through story missions until encountering Obelisks; these serve as points in which fast travel can later take place. Once an Obelisk appears during one of your missions, complete its story mission before opening up the world map if no further quests exist that keep locking you into quests or story missions.
On your map screen, there will be numerous markers representing locations. By hovering your cursor over one, fast travel to that specific destination by holding down on its button. Furthermore, not all locations require Obelisks in order to visit them; some areas become available after completing story missions, with subsequent Obelisks becoming accessible within said locations to teleport to different parts of those locales.
Final Fantasy 16 features many expansive dungeons that can make navigation difficult; finding Obelisks along the main paths makes retracing steps quick and efficient if needed between different areas in a dungeon.
Final Fantasy 16 may not be an open world game, but its semi-linear spaces allow you to revisit them at will and collect any items you missed while questing. Keep an eye out for Obelisks too and fast travel back when necessary using its map screen interface.
