BioShock 2’s godlike multiplayer has earned wide praise from players.
BioShock 2 may not have been as well received among fans as its predecessor, yet fans praise its “godlike” multiplayer mode as one of its key selling points.
BioShock 2 was widely received upon its 2010 debut but many saw it as inferior to its predecessor which released three years prior. While not necessarily considered bad title by critics, its primary critique lay within a story which did not match up as strongly to that of its predecessor; nevertheless many hold high regard for what new gameplay mechanics it introduced into the series.
Reddit recently discussed BioShock 2 as one of the many games where unwarranted hate has been directed toward, simply due to internet biases and Internet memes.
Commenters highlighted various games considered the “black sheeps” within respective series, such as Far Cry: Primal, Batman: Arkham Knight and Super Mario Sunshine as examples of such titles that stand out. BioShock 2’s mention inspired an extensive thread focusing on its incredible multiplayer component where teams of players faced off in various PvP game modes to prove it could hold their own against any competition in any one mode or another.
“BioShock 2 multiplayer was absolutely spectacular”
“I absolutely adored playing the big brother role and wrecking havoc with people’s lives – that was incredible!
“I was disappointed to see the remaster didn’t address multiplayer playability – as someone who enjoyed using my 360 to experience this amazing title so much, this aspect had long since been played through with joy!”
Unusual was that the multiplayer took place before events of the main game!
BioShock series development has since died out, leaving its successor still stuck in development hell since being announced back in 2019. Much speculation and information regarding its successor have surfaced regarding development issues; many citing multiple rewrites and transfers between studios as major obstacles that are holding things back from being completed in due time.
At this point, its fate remains uncertain and cancellation of the project cannot be discounted as an option; so any hope for continuation would rest with another studio picking up on it and producing an updated reboot series instead.
