No doubt this has passed you by, but there’s a new Assassin’s Creed coming our way, one which is both free and great! You might just miss it altogether if it wasn’t brought to your attention earlier!

According to many Assassin’s Creed enthusiasts who’ve had hands-on time with the new game – which you can also experience for free now – that may well be the case.

Assassin’s Creed Jade stands out for two key reasons. First, as it marks the first fully open-world RPG set in China to come from this series; and secondly as it marks a mobile game debut from Ubisoft.

As soon as I heard Assassin’s Creed Jade was going to be available on mobile platforms, my doubts immediately surfaced – not because mobile games are any less worth their while; rather it uses touch screen controls to replicate console Assassin’s Creed gameplay experience.

As someone who’s always disliked touch screen controls, I was skeptical at best; but early reviews for Jade have been very positive.

Over on the Assassin’s Creed subreddit there has been much praise for its latest installment. Although some users find its controls “infuriating”, there’s much else that people like about it.

“Amongst its positive aspects, I really admire the setting,” writes IwIlLcHaNgEtHiSL8r. The map looks and feels great for exploration while free roaming is also good. Combat is fluid with an engaging loadout mechanic adding depth. Additionally, I find the story and characters quite enjoyable with wonderful connections back into Odyssey/AC 2 lore.”

As for downsides, IwIlLcHaNgEtHiSL8r expressed his concerns regarding Jade’s usage of typical mobile mechanics; specifically level grinding and insignificant upgrades. There’s an overall risk that Jade may become “money grabbing soulless live service cash cow”, though Ubisoft should surely find an optimal balance when the game launches.

Reddit users have posted to this post and admitted they’re less-than-enthused about the game as advertised – yet this beta exists precisely to test our assumptions! Having said this, however, should remind users that betas exist to test our assumptions!
