Cyberpunk 2077 players still hope for a third-person mode to enter gameplay.
Cyberpunk 2077 has made headlines recently for good reason; thanks to a massive 2.0 patch and Phantom Liberty DLC as well as Twitch drops offering in-game items for free giveaway, its popularity is at an all time high. These developments represent something of a soft launch of what was previously an troubled game.
CD Projekt Red has spent much of 2018 revamping Cyberpunk 2077 into what would likely have been its initial state when released three years ago, including AI systems, levelling systems, armour usage options and player AI behavior. While most players wish for third-person mode in addition to all these improvements – they still want third person play as much.
One key reason players want this option is being able to see their character they spent so much time creating. One Redditor explained why she only rides motorcycles: so that “she can see her character.”
Cyberpunk 2077 presents us with this all too common problem; players spend hours creating or purchasing the ideal character model or skin, only for it never to appear due to first person perspective. In an open world game like Cyberpunk 2077 with so much variety when it comes to clothes and customisation options available to their avatars it seems almost a shame we seldom get a proper glimpse.
One Reddit comment requests “more mirrored reflections”, while another wishes that cutscenes pulled the camera back out to third person like Fallout 4 did. These players don’t necessarily prefer playing third person; rather they just prefer seeing more character models more frequently – though most prefer first-person gameplay!
Redditors on Reddit suggested players should “use photo mode as often as I do”, while another felt that pulling back to include all characters would “take away from immersion”.
PC players are fortunate enough to benefit from a mod which alters perspective shifts; unfortunately, console gamers remain without such options. Will CD Projekt Red implement something similar in future games or possibly in sequel releases?
