Halo 2 can now be played from third-person perspective – something which feels very odd indeed!
Modders have given Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 an entirely new perspective through third person mods that is seemingly cursed.
Halo stands as one of the great first-person shooter franchises ever created, from Halo: Reach and Halo 3 ODST being two timeless examples. Though Bungie left its legacy, some games in Halo’s first three games, Reach and 3:ODST seem timeless today.
So here’s my question for you: what would happen if one of the finest first-person shooters ever created were given an alternative point-of-view instead? My conclusion? That would make for one of the greatest third-person shooters ever produced instead!
NexusMods creator Davide Di Fortunato has designed two mods from NexusMods which switch the camera in Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 from first person to third-person mode for PC gamers playing Halo: Combat Evolved or Halo 2. You can download them both here (Halo CE one is here and Halo 2 one here).
Once a weapon is held by you, however, this mod takes full effect and its full effects become evident.
Unsurprisingly, Halo games lend themselves well to third-person gameplay; all vehicle segments switch the camera perspective over into this view and with aim-assist turned on as usual, aim is just as straightforward and accurate. A notable benefit from third person viewing is increased spatial awareness which comes in handy when being pursued by an Elite with an energy sword or being enveloped by The Flood.
Though only third-person mods exist for two of Halo’s games so far, other modders exist that alter camera views on other titles in this franchise, so in theory you could play through all four with one camera angle changed at all times!
NexusMods now allows PC owners to easily download third-person perspective mods.
