Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sets post-pandemic record sales volume

As likely as we might see Mariah Carey or Michael Buble emerge from their Christmas caves, so too should we anticipate seeing Call of Duty: Ghosts release its annual entry.

No matter your opinion on Call of Duty games, its immense popularity since 2003 cannot be denied. I myself am an avid fan of this franchise that never disappoints with each entry delivering high-octane single player campaigns and multiplayer action; plus Zombies mode to boot!

Unfortunately, upon release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III this year, its results fell far short of all our expectations. My review for Modern Warfare III (campaign) noted this disappointment by concluding: “Call of Duty deserves much better.”

Modern Warfare III soon after became the worst-reviewed Call of Duty title ever released, garnering just 53 Metacritic scores at launch and as low as 1.9 user scores by writing time of this review article. My reviews certainly seemed reflective of community opinion at that point in time, however.

However, Modern Warfare III proved an outstanding commercial success for Activision once more and the developers expressed their thanks for fans’ warm reception despite some initial reservations about its quality. Even at its lowest quality levels, Call of Duty remains an enormously lucrative franchise!

Modern Warfare III experienced issues at launch regarding players being placed into positions from which opposing players could camp out and kill them easily, forcing the developers to remove some maps from rotation for testing before adding them back in again. Due to these launch issues, Modern Warfare III developers offered rewards such as Battle Pass skips as compensation to its players.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III has experienced great commercial success despite any backlash, breaking a post-pandemic record since 2019. This news was revealed via its official Twitter account which announced record numbers since 2019.

“Y’all served up more than enough Thanksgiving holiday,” it tweeted. “MWIII players amassed the highest average hours per player since 2019 during any holiday weekend since release; let’s do better this Thursday when Shipment arrives to play!”

Modern Warfare III has officially outdone Call of Duty: Vanguard, Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare II in terms of sales despite all of their respective controversy. Personally speaking, while I may dislike its campaign mode I’ve still found great pleasure playing its multiplayer component- especially those remastered MW2 maps from 2009.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III has just hit PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
