Starfield player reports game-breaking bug after 600-hour playthrough
Starfield may not have fared so well at The Game Awards this year – competition was undoubtedly tough this time – yet plenty of gamers continue spending hours upon hours immersed in Bethesda’s space-faring adventure.
Bethesda developers have been diligent in supporting Starfield, helping it reach its full potential. City maps are among many highly requested additions which we know of coming down the pipe; as is an expansion known only by name: Shattered Space. In recent weeks, one player started their 33rd New Game Plus playthrough – producing astounding results and fresh twists each time! Another has made an unprecedented 600 hours commitment before encountering what appears to be an unsolvable bug!
Reddit user Mattgyvercom took to Reddit in order to share their story of woe. Mattgyvercom noted, as reported by GameRant, he could never get within 250m from his main outpost without it crashing, thus abandoning it and moving onto something else (NG).” In truth, Mattgyvercom was playing Xbox Series X when this issue surfaced despite dedicating hours creating his outpost – now regardless of his approach towards its station his game crashed every time!
Mattgyvercom attempted a variety of approaches when approaching on foot – unassigning cargo links, companions, save files reverting back etc – yet still could not close in on its target location. They later confirmed they spent approximately 600 hours playing through one playthrough alone!
GameRant suggests the issue could lie with how Starfield handles FormIDs. Simply stated, FormIDs take up more space in its Creation Engine compared to before; therefore during long playthroughs of Starfield long formIDs may overflow, leading to instability issues and potentially creating these instability problems – an undesirable development when Bethesda anticipates this game as one players will spend years engaging with it! Let’s hope a solution is quickly found!
