TimeSplitters revival first look was released online by its developer.
First glimpses of TimeSplitters remake have now surfaced online and it’s breaking our hearts.
When we think of classic FPS games, GoldenEye 64, Halo: Combat Evolved and TimeSplitters often come to mind. Unfortunately, however, an official remake for TimeSplitters was cancelled earlier this year when its publisher Free Radical Design closed down due to financial challenges.
Fans were left heartbroken upon learning this news; many have long yearning for another TimeSplitters game to bring its skill-based arcade shooting action with all of today’s first-person-shooters features and enhancements.
As an added insult, some assets of the game have begun surfacing online thanks to some developers; giving us a glimpse of what could have been had their studio not unfortunately shut down.
TimeSplitters News & Archives account on Twitter shared some of this artwork that has been collected and stored on fandom website of TimeSplitters game for those interested.
Commenters wept over Free Radical Design’s inability to complete its game. Many bemoaned the artwork’s beauty while hoping something could be done to give Free Radical another chance at completion of it all.
One fan summed it up perfectly by recalling all of the memorable modes, maps and weapons from TimeSplitters series; what it would have meant if these classic titles returned on modern platforms.
Another commenter shared their belief that Free Radical Design deserves better and hopes PlayStation will step in and save them, possibly turning their game into an exclusive with greater chance for success.
Someone asked “Gutted. In an age when Sony and Microsoft are buying up game companies, why haven’t Sony or Microsoft acquired TimeSplitters?”. Incredible games and IP with an avid following.”
TimeSplitters could potentially come back one day if the right studio steps up and acquires its IP. While life may have dealt out an unfair deal, all hope may still exist as many games have returned from near destruction in past incarnations – meaning TimeSplitters might emerge again some day in some other form or form.
