Insomniac has announced they have created the Sunset Overdrive sequel for Marvel’s Spider-Man game franchise.
Recent Insomniac leaks have provided many PlayStation fans with exciting Spider-Man and Wolverine details, raising excitement over future titles from Insomniac. Perhaps Insomniac’s decision to go full Marvel may stem from them opting to develop Marvel’s Spider-Man instead of Sunset Overdrive sequel?
According to an Insomniac leak that fans can easily locate anywhere online, Insomniac considered creating Sunset Overdrive 2 with an expected 2016 release, but due to Marvel’s Spider-Man arriving two years later instead, Insomniac decided against this venture in favor of Marvel properties like Spider-Man instead of Microsoft IPs like Sunset Overdrive 2.
Though Sunset Overdrive fans will likely be dismayed at Sony’s decision, Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise has proven highly popular on PlayStation, leading them to purchase Insomniac; Insomniac became PlayStation exclusive a year after Spider-Man was first released and thus lead them towards becoming Sony exclusive developers.
Spider-Man has proven itself an extremely profitable franchise for Sony Studios since, becoming one of the flagship studios within Sony. Both Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2 were met with critical acclaim; so fans are certainly eagerly awaiting Spider-Man 3 and Insomniac Games’ Wolverine game for release later in 2018.
Sunset Overdrive was an open world game similar to Spider-Man that gave players plenty of ways to cause mischief, with an emphasis on weapon use instead of traversal fun – although we think Insomniac made the smart choice here by not creating another sequel.
Stock Informer gives real-time stock tracking. Unfortunately, we had to learn of Insomniac this way and that more damning leaks exist about their company – however this wasn’t just game stuff and we hope Insomniac recovers after such a drastic breach in their privacy.
Marvel’s Spider-Man can now be played across PS4, PS5, and PC; its sequel remains exclusive to PS5.
