Stronghold Crusader shares many similarities with its predecessor but is improved by the addition of new features. The biggest difference is the location. While the first game took place in England, this latest version takes place in the Middle East. This latest release also includes a new skirmish game, which was absent from the previous installments.

This latest version also features the Crusader Trail, which is a series of connected 50 missions that take on multiple opponents. This game offers a variety of campaigns and crusades, as well as a multitude of characters. In the Skirmish Mode, they all play AI controlled roles. The players can select them as either their allies or enemies. These characters can interact with players, asking them for help or equipment when needed if the character is the player’s ally or taunting or expressing their grief if the character is the enemy.
