The World Video Game Hall of Fame has officially announced its 2025 inductees, honoring four iconic games: *Quake*, *GoldenEye 007*, *Tamagotchi*, and *Defender*.

*Quake* was recognized for its groundbreaking 3D graphics, innovative server-based multiplayer system, and lasting impact on competitive gaming and the FPS genre. The game also played a key role in the rise of esports and inspired titles like *Team Fortress 2*, which began as a *Quake* mod.

*GoldenEye 007*, a fan favorite on the Nintendo 64, finally earned its place in the Hall after being a finalist multiple times. The game was praised for bringing FPS gameplay to consoles and popularizing local split-screen multiplayer.

*Tamagotchi* stood out as the only portable device on the list, credited with launching the virtual pet craze in the late ’90s. Selling over 40 million units worldwide in its early years, the toy remains a cultural icon with ongoing updates and spin-offs.

Lastly, 1980 arcade hit *Defender* was acknowledged for its difficulty, fast-paced gameplay, and technical achievements. It became the top-earning arcade game of 1981 and sold over 3 million copies on home consoles like the Atari 2600.

All four games have made lasting impacts on the gaming world and were honored for their innovation and cultural influence.
