Geralt of Rivia will indeed feature prominently in The Witcher 4 according to sources.
Now, The Witcher 4 has become more of an objective thanks to reports that Geralt might still return as one of its protagonists.
Geralt’s story appeared to have come to an end; an inevitable consequence in terms of video game adaptations; yet we worried too early. Now it seems CD Projekt Red will keep Geralt in their games with their hint that Geralt will feature prominently in an upcoming title!
Codename Polaris has been long anticipated; The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was officially released eight years ago! Luckily we still had Netflix’s The Witcher to keep us occupied; even an anime adaptation will soon follow suit; yet somehow something felt missing without Geralt we’d come to love in his games.
Now that CD Projekt Red has successfully concluded Cyberpunk 2077 and its DLC was an overwhelming success, its remaining team have moved over to Polaris. Director Sebastian Kalemba promises The Witcher 4 will serve as an “entry point” for new fans; “I believe I can confidently say it will provide many players with their first experience of Geralt’s adventures without forgetting longtime followers who still wish to continue following him!”
Are we glad that Geralt was mentioned? Even flashbacks would bring joy. Unfortunately, as with every good announcement there comes bad news: Kalemba confirmed “The Witcher 4 won’t come out for some years, [along] with it having been an extended wait since its predecessor; therefore we need to build both existing fans as well as creating new communities around this saga”.
Newcomers to the series and returning players alike will be welcomed, but it can still be heartbreaking knowing we won’t see Geralt until decades from now. Luckily, Netflix will begin airing an anime adaptation by late 2024!
