One of Fallout’s premier games can be enjoyed without cost to yourself – one is even free to download and install!

Bethesda provides this free game as a good opportunity if you want a taster of Fallout but are not quite ready for its whole RPG experience.

Fallout Shelter can be found across mobile, Steam and console platforms and allows players to construct underground vaults similar to those found in mainline Fallout games – complete with various rooms, services and townspeople – before filling it up with different rooms, services and townspeople from within its world. Offering a casual learning curve and playing in 2D makes Fallout Shelter the ideal game for experiencing post-apocalyptic life first-hand!

Fallout Shelter uses cartoony visuals similar to Vault Boy in Fallout games for its casual atmosphere and gameplay – though its depth has grown considerably since its release. Harvest materials from harvestable sources, construct rooms inside your vault shelter and attract survivors as residents by harvesting materials or gathering survivors who visit it.

Though life in The Vault may not always be peaceful, you’ll discover it’s never dull. Your days could be filled with radioactive creatures or human hordes attempting to destroy your utopian society. So long as you continue breeding villagers like a good overseer, enough people will exist to protect the vault from attack, bring resources or currency from outside sources, and work their days bringing resources and currency to your vault. There’s something here for everyone – humour, tactical gameplay, Sims-esque survivor or survival management…and all free-to-play!

Fallout Shelter was developed for mobile platforms as an introduction to Fallout’s beloved franchise with its mix of humour and destruction – with Shelter playing an instrumental role in further developing it into something much more significant than just another idle sim experience. Yet its core strengths come in its gameplay across Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, though mobile gamers would likely benefit most. One key benefit is how accessible Fallout Shelter was made; all three consoles could also take part quickly! Fallout Shelter introduced us all to Fallout – which quickly became one of our favourites alongside Fallout’s beloved franchise with its signature brand of humour alongside destruction: its core charm was amply explored within Fallout itself!
