After “Super Gay” exaggerations, Fans Respond to ‘Thor’: Love and Thunder
Marvel has received a mixed response to its Phase Four line-up. From Ms. Marvel to Moon Knight, Marvel’s latest MCU phase introduced us to some amazing new characters, but while no project has been particularly successful, the franchise doesn’t have the same momentum as The Infinity Saga.
We don’t yet know the next big problem, and things could change once we do. Thor, Love and Thunder continues the trend for now. Although it’s not bad, it’s not what fans expected from Ragnarok. Fans are not impressed by one aspect.
Director Taika Waititi called Thor, Love and Thunder “super gay” a few days back. Natalie Portman also called the film “so homosexual” This moment was thrilling for many Marvel fans.
The franchise has not had LGBTQ+ representation. Marvel may occasionally give us a joke line that confirms a character’s sexuality, but the MCU has yet to truly celebrate LGBTQ+ representation. Thor. Love and Thunder seems to be aiming to change that. Fans are finding out that the film is not “super gay”. I won’t mention any specifics for spoilers-sake but once again, Marvel has fallen into the habit of limiting representation to a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment.
Fans have accused Thor, Love and Thunder and their queerbaiting. Twitter user Jowrotethis said, “I would lower mine expectations for Th. It would be mildly-moderately homosexual. It’s a soupcon of gay. GayISH” was written by grossfiction. “Kinda lame that Natalie Portman and Taika waititi described Thor, Love and Thunder both as’so homosexual’ and’super-gay’. The movie wasn’t gay at all.
