The latest PlayStation Showcase was somewhat underwhelming. Don’t take me wrong; there were certainly exciting announcements and updates – apart from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, little was revealed regarding Sony’s first-party releases for 2017.

What we know for sure about PlayStation 5’s future is its bright outlook: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will soon arrive and its map has already been confirmed as double that of the first installment, Naughty Dog has confirmed they’ve scrapped The Last of Us multiplayer project but instead introduced an immersive single player experience; ghost of Tsushima 2 could soon follow; Bend Studio and Santa Monica Studio both are working on mystery projects as well. Unfortunately though, custom themes still are lacking from PS5.

At first, it may come as a shock that Sony did not include customisable themes for their PS5, given their immense popularity on PlayStation 4. Personally, my The Last of Us theme will come as no surprise; not long after my PS5 arrived with customisation capabilities last December (one fan made an mock-up to showcase what it would look like with them applied), fans began calling upon them again asking Sony for an update with customizable theme support.

Reddit user LAVENDREP noted, “Almost three years since launch and still no themes!” while Subject_Range_6796 shared how much she missed Bloodborne platinum theme; Vastlymoist666 noted how much they missed Far Cry 5 theme- its guitar chord was so relaxing! Opting for another perspective SoylentGreen-YumYum commented “I’m fairly indifferent towards my PS5 homescreen; on PS4, I would typically go for one that wasn’t too distracting – give me folders! That would do.”

Sony has stated no intentions to introduce themes, so for now we must wait and see.
