Fortnite ‘OG’ proved an enormously popular multiplayer battle royale experience last month and caused its player count to skyrocket significantly.

Fortnite Season 5 has begun and brings with it new skins such as Metal Gear Solid’s Solid Snake and Family Guy’s Peter Griffin as well as an updated map and impending LEGO mode.

Battle royale has never been so popular thanks to ‘OG,’ the previous season that brought back its original map from when it first released and gained notoriety. Not everyone found it enjoyable however; while many found comfort seeing old locations and items return for nostalgia-seekers like themselves, other may argue the update rendered playing less pleasurable overall.

All is back to normal now, yet the “OG” season left its own lasting mark as player count increased significantly due to this update – peaking out in November due to this.

According to Epic Games itself, an impressive 100 million players joined battle throughout November; 44.7 million of those online on any single day. Epic’s own analysis indicates this move as genius as its original map catered both to current fans seeking something different, as well as past fans who had abandoned the game with more complex game modes and mechanics introduced later.

Epic Games recently responded to fan feedback regarding its Open Global Season by saying it far exceeded their expectations, as well as teased its return next year with “We’d like to bring it back… *opens 2024 roadmap document*”.

No word yet as to if this will be a separate game mode within an OG season or simply another map from its past being brought back – either way it should prove exciting!

Fortnite’s fifth season began recently and can be played free-to-play across Xbox, PlayStation 4, PC and Nintendo platforms.
