Sony has provided sales figures for some of its top PlayStation titles that were recently leaked online, according to reports.
Finding out sales numbers of videogames can be challenging when they aren’t publicly disclosed by companies selling them, which makes discovering how some PlayStation exclusives have sold a small boon in all this chaos. While Insomniac leaked some sales information regarding some Sony PlayStation exclusive titles which was unintentionally leaked was likely detrimental, at least now we know their exact sales totals for some Sony PS exclusive titles sold is an advantage that we might gain thanks to this leakage.
Sony typically only boasts of their major game successes like Spider-Man 2 or God of War Ragnarok while remaining relatively silent about less successful projects. Although this leak doesn’t reveal sales for every PlayStation exclusive product sold since 2021 and 2020; we do know the sales figures of projects produced from 2021-2025 alongside miscellaneous years.
Here is a selection of Sony projects which had their sales leaked (via Gaming Leaks subreddit).
2021 games: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is expected to reach 2.34 Million units sold globally while MLB The Show 21 should make around 1.606 Million. In 2022 games;
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut will return with its Director Cut edition featuring 1.49m copies for Returnal sales with 862k Returnal units while Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection 329K units sold, 329K Uncharted Director’s Cut was 329K uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection 329k Death Stranding Director’s Cut is set for 2022; whil 2020 games will include Spider-Man Miles Morales with 10.184m Remake Ghost Of Tsushima 7.436M Demon Souls Remake which stands in terms of sales to Sackboy A Big Adventure which stands in terms of both box office sales figures at 1.188 Million units sold.
Predator: Hunting Grounds sold 778k
It can be disheartening to see titles like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart only reaching 2.34 million lifetime sales, showing just how hard platformers like Rift Apart can be sold these days. Also shocking was seeing big remasters such as Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection and Death Stranding Director’s Cut sell under 1 Million; especially considering their quality! Returnal selling below one Million hurt further still.
Unsurprisingly, Spider-Man: Miles Morales did well for Sony thanks to its well-established IP and success of the first game in this franchise. What surprised many observers is Predator: Hunting Grounds’ less than stellar sales; typically we expect greater levels of success from such major IPs.
Given recent sales numbers, we can understand why Sony increased PS Plus prices recently. Though some may view it as unnecessary or even unfair action taken against customers who fail to purchase certain exclusive titles from them.
Fans can now purchase a PlayStation 5, with both models readily available – with the new model even easily attainable!
